Music Hub - Peterborough

Peterborough city council Logos'The Power of Music to Change Lives'

Peterborough Music Hub and its partner organisations works with schools, arts, community and voluntary organisations to support and deliver music education provision for Peterborough.

The Peterborough Music Education Hub was established as a result of the first National Plan for Music Education (NPME) and is funded by the Department for Education, administered by Arts Council England. The organisation is dedicated to making an enjoyable and successful music education accessible to all young people irrespective of their ability to pay. The Music Hub also seeks to lift the barriers that arise through language, educational, social or cultural issues.

Peterborough Music Hub’s work is guided by 'The National Plan for Music Education, June 2022 - The Power of Music to Change Lives' with its work strategically delivered through the Local Plan for Music Education.

  2. Support all children and young people to engage with a range of musical opportunities in and out of school.
  3. Support young people to develop their musical interests and talent further, including into employment.

The Five Strategic Functions

  2. Schools
  3. Progression & Musical Development
  4. Inclusion
  5. Sustainability
Support for Schools

Peterborough Music Hub works actively engaged with 97% of schools across the city and provides practical support and constructive advice on music provision within educational settings.

The Music Hub has a diverse offer of activity and support for all schools and education settings based on need, including support with School Music Development Plans, CPD (including regular network meetings), curriculum (including Model Music Curriculum), Whole Class Instrumental provision, performance opportunities, provision of music lessons and ensembles, instrument loan, bursary support and links between in and out of school provision.

Opportunities for CPD

Finish This... is the English National Opera's FREE music making programme for schools nationwide bringing a fusion of opera, film and animation into your classroom, as a creative springboard for collaborative composition work.

There are versions for Primary KS2, SEND, and Secondary KS3 learners, all co-created with teachers and learning consultants.
The programme is closely aligned with the national curriculum and develops students’ composition and performance skills, introducing them to opera and new cultural experiences, whilst promoting creativity, collaboration and self-expression.
